I have problems with tachycardia and high blood pressure. My doctor put me on atenolol. I find that the drug makes me wheeze and it’s hard to breathe. For that reason I don’t take it like I should. As I tell my doctors when they ask why I’m not taking the drug as they prescribe, it’s because I seem to have to choose between breathing or having a heart attack. (I’d rather breathe.) My Dad has been diagnosed with COPD. He takes metroprolol, a drug that I was told was just like atenolol only stronger. He’s been taking metroprolol for a long time. Could his breathing problems be due to the metoprolol?
I guess what I’m interested in knowing is how many people who take these drugs have serious breathing problems. I think they are commonly prescribed drugs. I tried looking on the internet and there are a number of people who say they also have breathing problems when they take atenolol.
