I had a spirometer 4 months back and these were my stats:
FVC: 105%
FEV: 89%
FEV/FVC: 69%
Lung age: 33 (I’m 30)
Did x rays and MRI and the gene test but none were conclusive. In fact they seemed to show no issues.
Doctor asked me to just quit smoking and gave me some bronchitis meds. I quit cold turkey.
4 months later:
FVC 121%
FEV 105%
FEV/FVC 75
Lung age: 28 (I’m still 30, will be 31 in sept)
Numbers have massively improved and doctor says these are excellent results. And asked me to just stay off smoking (which turns out is not all that hard - this is not a jab at people who are not able to quit, I’m sure psychology varies people to people)
What I did in these 4 months:
Quit smoking
Ran 5K at least 4 times a week
Yoga (breathing exercise) thrice a week 30 mins
Eat healthy, veggies and everything good for lungs (researched on web)
Took my meds religiously
Bottom line is to not lose hope. Things may or may not turn around. I was not too far gone to begin with but for others in a similar scenario, I felt this might be helpful.
When I had got my initial result 4 months back I couldn’t find any similar cases and was quite disheartened.
Apologies for the long post
