My breathlessness typically does not present as severe panting or gasping (unless I am exercising to within an inch of my life!). I typically feel that however deeply I breathe in I cannot get enough air. That's what drove me to the doctor years ago. I now have strategies to help when that happens, including not getting in a panic. But I have noticed recently that as things are getting back to normal I am finding it helps a lot if I take my breath in, then swallow, and then breathe out. I realise that I also drink a very large number of small sips of water when I exercise and wonder if I am feeling the need to swallow rather than drink. It is almost as if the swallowing action is somehow keeping the air properly in my lungs and enabling me to take a satisfying breath. Has anyone else noticed this? Or does anyone have any idea what it might signify (if anything)?
