My dad has been diagnosed with pneumonia now on top of his COPD. He didn’t have any usual symptoms of pneumonia but was having desats and confusion at night (he’s 86) so they did a CT and diagnosed it on CT. He’s on antibiotics and prednisone at home.
Anyway now we are watching his Sp02 closely but I’m starting to question whether we are getting accurate readings on the pulse ox. Just this evening his pulse ox reading went from 79 (which had me reaching for the phone to call 911) to 96 in under a minute. Is it even possible something like that is accurate?
He also has afib and anemia (along with a lot of other comorbidities given his age) and I’m wondering if both of those psych out the pulse ox.
Thanks again, all
