Good morning!
I completed a complete PFT with bronchodilator this week. I am a bit confused by the conclusions.
Spirometry results:
Spirometry shows an obstructive ventilatory defect with reduced FEV1/FVC ration of 47%, and reduced FEV1 of 47% predicted. The degree of obstruction is severe with FEV1 of 47% predicted. Following bronchodilator inhalation there is significant improvement noted (more than 200 ml and 12% increase by ATS criteria) with in FVC by x% (x ml) and/or improvement in FEV1 by 15% (180 ml) from baseline.
Lung volume results: Lung volumes are normal.
Diffusion capacity results: The diffusion capacity for carbon monoxide is normal.
Conclusions: a mild reversible obstructive ventilatory defect is present consistent with asthma, although in the appropriate clinical setting COPD with partial reversibility phenotype may be likely.

So my question: aren't the conclusions at odd with the results?
I am getting a second opinion at Duke next week. But I am curious about the wording of the results. And I curious what you think.
