Hello,
My name is Faye, and I'm a bit confused. I have NOT been to a pulmonary Dr., but I did use my neighbors little handheld spirometer that shows the FEV1 level.
Before I go any further, I know that none of you are Drs. here, and don't expect you to be able to tell me anything in depth. That being said, I also know that you guys are very smart, and educated on these things. :)
I am 57, 5.5 inches, and my FEV1 should be (from looking at the chart) 2.61. I blew from 2.23 to 2.36.... yesterday. Isn't that still in the normal range? Can I go by that number on a home spirometer? My good friend says it is accurate.
My father had emphysema, and lung cancer. Since I did NOT blow the expected number, I'm a little worried. Maybe for nothing...I don't know. I know there are other numbers that can give more of an accurate diagnosis than just the FEV1 correct?
I do have some shortness of breath in the early morning. Not much of a cough, or mucous production. Cigarettes..yes, I did smoke, but quit a yr. ago. (one reason I tried out her spirometer). **cleaned it first** :o
Thanks for any replies, or answers, or advice ahead of time.
God bless, <3
Faye
