Do you know about NTM lung disease? NTM stands for Nontuberculous Mycobacteria. This type of bacteria is found in common places in our environment like soil and both natural and treated water sources. When the lungs have been affected by conditions such as COPD and bronchiectasis, it makes them more prone to acquiring NTM lung disease. This is one of the reasons why the COPD Foundation focuses some of its efforts on educating others about NTM, how it is diagnosed, and NTM lung disease treatment options.
We are excited to announce that we have two new NTM lung disease resources for our patient and caregiver community that were developed with the support of a grant from Insmed. The first is an NTM Lung Disease Information Sheet. This information sheet will help those with or at risk of developing NTM lung disease learn more about symptoms, diagnosis, and how NTM lung disease can be managed. The second resource that was developed by a panel of experts is the My NTM Management Tool. This easy-to-use document helps those with NTM lung disease communicate better with their health care providers. It is designed to be filled out and used at doctor’s visits to assist in discussing patient goals, care plans, and NTM lung disease management strategies. Download your copy now by clicking here.*
If you are interested in learning more about NTM, visit Bronchiectasis and NTM 360 (a division of the COPD Foundation). There are additional resources there like educational videos that give you more information on NTM lung disease.
*Most of the COPD Foundation educational materials are also available for purchase from the COPD Foundation Online Store.
