My mom is 80 years old this year. She is end stage COPD. Since mid December she has been in and out of hospital and ICU. She cannot seem to breathe well enough on her own to keep her in skilled nursing. Palliative is being brought in but she is not intubated. She is having extreme anxiety about her situation and also short term memory loss past several months.

What can be done for her at thid stage? How do we help her? She had kidney issues so trying to give too much morphine or dilaudid for air hunger is not a good idea they said but they are doing what they can.

Should she be in hospice? They seem medically resistant to do that.
