I am recently diagnosed with mild-moderated COPD. 63 year old female. One doctor at Duke University said I have very tiny scarring in upper lungs, very little emphysema, I will never be on oxygen and will live a long life. Another doctor at Mayo Clinic I went to for second opinion agreed with that first doctor but thought I was mild, not bad at all. My original PFT test showed 60% FEV/FVC. Yet, I've been struggling since July. In December came down with acute bronchitis and still coughing to this day, 2 mos later. I did a round of low dose steroids for a week with antibiotics, a nebulizer treatment and started on Spiriva and was using Albuterol every 4 hours when I first came down with bronchitis. I then switched to Stiolto to try to lesson my use of Albuterol thinking I'd feel better and heart would not pound so much. Could not handle that medicine and felt really sick by third day. Stopped that and went back to Spiriva but added Flovent out of desperation. Started feeling better and SOB got much better, but still coughing somewhat. I stopped the Flovent because I don't want to be dependent on steroid inhaler, but started coughing more and using Albuterol more, but heart doing ok, not pounding like the first time I started using in when I was sick back in December, early January. So, here I am. Spiriva, albuterol every 6 hours or so, trying not to overdo that either and just started NAC, hoping to loosen mucous and get it out and feel better. Today on the 2nd day of NAC, I was able to cough up more mucus then I ever have this morning. What are your thoughts on NAC? Anybody have good results? I just want to feel NORMAL again. I do exercise and eat right. No drinking except maybe one glass of wine a week. No smoking, quit 2 years ago. thank you!
