Hi, I'm a 33 year old male, and over the past year or so, I've been experiencing severe shortness of breath that worsens with exercise, also irregular heartbeats and squeezing chest pain. Naturally, at first I assumed it was heart-related so I went to see a cardiologist. Then a second one. I had basically every test done and they ruled out a cardiac issue. Then I was referred to a pulminologist who had me do a breath test which said that my fev1 was around 40%. I didn't think that could be right because I'm only 33 and a non-smoker. After the breath test I had a chest x-ray and the doctor told me that it showed a good deal of lung inflammation. So he told me I have COPD, but I'm confused because a) I don't really display many of the symptoms of COPD (wheezing coughing, respiratory infections), b) I'm a non-smoker, c) this seems to have come on quite suddenly (even though I've been dealing with it for a year now) and d) The severity of the fev1 for someone my age. Also, I've been dealing with the heart related skipping and palpitations. Is any of this common? It doesn't sound like COPD to me, but that's what they diagnosed me with.
