(Female, age 63, overweight non-smoker though smoked socially in teens and part of 20's. Completely quit at age 33. History of chronic cough since age 3.)
I had testing done last week (cough with exercise, at night and in morning along with dyspnea with exercise ..mostly deconditioning related I think) and I just got my report in from the pulmonologist who read the results.
Results:
"Forced vital capacity is normal
FEV1 is normal
FEV1 / FVC ratio is low normal
>Interpretation:
Officially a normal study.
There is a suggestion of a very mild obstructive ventilatory defect with a borderline low FEV1/FEC ratio.
>Comparison Studies: No old studies are available for comparison."
The FEV/FEC was 68.46%%.
I have had previous studies done, but they were over 10 years ago so I am guessing that is why the doc who read the results said there were no old studies for comaprison. All of the previous testing was done at the same facility and I was actually treated for asthma for 18 years until it was decided I had vocal chord dysfunction. No asthma or VCD showed in my recent testing.
I know I am currently deconditioned due to being mostly isolated the past three years because of COVID. So far I have not had a symptomatic case and have never tested positive for COVID and I am just starting to re-enter "normal" life.
How much weight do I put into this test result?
Where do I go from here other than lose weight and get more exercise?
Thank you!
Jen
