Hello All. On 5-17/2023 I was prescribed Spriva by my pulmonary specialist and given a two week sample that I started on 5-18-2023. Today was my sixth day using Spiriva and as of today I could actually feel a difference in a positive way and I knew it was working for me. Quite a difference in opened airways. The two week sample will exhaust in one week so I went to my pharmacy to fill my hoped for prescription and was informed my insurance (blue shield) DENIED the prescription. The pharmacist informed me that probably at the cost of Spiriva my insurance will require me to use another long acting bronchial dilator first and if that does not work or I have problems then maybe I can appeal or my Dr. can perhaps help me in some way. But for now they will require me to use something else first. What that something else is I have no idea as in calling my pulmonary specialist I was referred to a prescription department recording that states they will get back to me in three days time. So its the hurry up and wait routine.. Two questions; 1. Has anyone else been denied Spiriva by their health insurance? 2. What long acting bronchi dilator may they pay for that is as effective (hopefully) as Spiriva? Thanks for the help.
