I am 27 years old and smoked for 8 years with an average of 2-3 cigarettes per day. I quit around 4 months ago. After a month, I noticed my natural breathing was shorter and I had a nagging cough which persisted for almost two months. Earlier the cough was only when I used to go out but then it became constant throughout the day. After two months of coughing, i developed wheezing from one side of the nose and occasional feeling of cramped chest.
Doctor prescribed a pulmonary test. He said my x ray looked fine but during my test, I wasn't able to exhale 6 seconds completely at the test. I had no air left after 3 seconds. Maybe, some air might have been trapped in my lungs and was not coming out. As a result, I don't think my test results were valid. My fev1 was 107%. I asked about copd but my doctor believes it could be asthma because copd is diagnosed in adults above 40.
However I am confused and not sure. Right now after being on asthma medication on 1 month and stopping it. The coughing is gone but the slight wheezing is still there. I am still confused if it emphysema due to the air trapping.
