I ventured out of the house today for the first time since I broke my ribs. Who says you can't drive with just one hand? What could go wrong?
But I was on a mission: I wanted to score a couple of nice tenderloins for dinner. I even put them on my own credit card instead of my wife's. And I wanted to buy her a nice thank you card for caring for me so well.
So off to the store(s) I went. Stopping first at the bank, the barber, the postoffice........
Why is it the stores always put the stuff you want in opposite corners of the place so you have to walk clear around the store to get what you want? I left my o2 at home. My wife thought I should take it, but nah, I'm tough, and I figured I'd just run in and out of the places I needed to go.
Total fail. You don't run in and out of anywhere when your ribs are broken.
The grocery store did have those electric carts you can drive around, but nah, I didn't need one of those, I was just going for a couple of items and I'd be out of there.
Total fail. If you have fricken emphysema and you're supposed to be on 02 24/7, then you probably ought to take the stupid machine with you.
But I did it. I went shopping, and the steaks are cooking at this very minute. Yes, I'm ready to collapse for the evening, but that's ok. I had a great time. The Mcwhatsit ice cream thing at McDonalds was nice too. But we won't be mentioning that to my wife.
