Hello everyone,
Hope this finds you and yours well. Healthy wishes and best from NYC.
My mother (80) has been battling COPD, CHF and Afib for a very long time, Ever since I was a little kid. We've both been through many hospitalizations, bad news events, bad numbers etc. At the end of those, she always bounced back strong. And until 1 month ago, the quality of her life was good - no o2 during the day - only at night 2L, exercise, activities she loves and the whole bit.
But that changed overnight.
Recently she was hospitalized for low-sats which they thought was a CHF issue. They treated her and it shows her heart to be in pretty good shape - EF 50-60, fewer medications than year's past, good kidney function, etc.
She came back home and nothing changed. Very low-sats, weakness, slight lack of awareness. After increasing home o2, and talking with doctors, the consensus is that they likely can't do anything. Hospice at home is becoming the most likely next step.
Does anyone have any insights - good and/or bad about home hospice for a COPD sufferer? Does anyone have something they wished they knew before they made this decision? What can I anticipate given a pretty good heart but weak lungs in this situation?
I love my mom. it's always been just she and I and the road has been long. We've fought hard (she's done most of the hard fighting) and while I don't want to give up, I don't want her to suffer.
I'd love to hear your experiences and thank you all in advance for your time and care. You guys have been a bright light during dark times. Sending best to you all.
