Hi All,
My mother who is 65 appears to be in a steady state of decline due to COPD.
Main points I have noticed are:
- Significant weight loss (very skinny) even in the face. Approx 15kgs lost in 12 months.
- FEV1 of approx 22%
- Oxgen Saturation of 80-83
- Big barrelled chest
- Constant weezing and coughing up mucus
- Osteoporosis
- Edema (swelling of feet and ankles) have been recently occurring
- Inability to walk steadily or carry things too far
She has had multiple hospitalizations over the last 3 months, with the recent visit only two days ago. In discussion with the doctor at the hospital, they recommended palliative care and morphine treatments. He also mentioned she may only have months to live.
All that said, she continues to SMOKE!
I am wondering how realistic the doctor's prediction is though? I understand it is challenging to predict life expectancy, however, it will reassure me she is getting the best treatment or support available.
