I'm worried sick at the moment guys. I've had asthma since childhood (chronic asthma, frequent attacks as a kid that lead to lots of hospitalisation, was in and out of hospital on a monthly basis throughout my childhood and early teens). Then smoked cigarettes as a late teen/early adult and smoked cannabis with tobacco for 12 years from the age of 16.
I'm 30 now (quit cannabis altogether 2 years ago) , and have been told I have asthma and COPD, based on my PFT results. My fev1/fvc was 58% with only partial reversiblility after bronchodilators.
I am worried sick at the moment that my lungs are terrible for a 30 year old. Worried where I will be at 40/50, and if I will even survive to age 60 and beyond? I don't have kids yet, and really wanted to have some. Now I'm considering is it even wise?
I'm a bit of a mess so just wondering others experiences here and if actually, my lung function may not decrease that much in the next 20 years and I can keep it above 50% all the way until 60 years old and beyond? What the 'prognosis' is?
I'm already starting a keto diet. I've heard it helps. Although, to be honest, I don't feel like eating whatsoever this week. Since I read my PFT report and the doctor said he thinks it's asthma plus COPD I have just been doing so much googling and it's made me feel rotten to the core
Thanks for reading, looking forward to connecting with people.
