Hello all,

I haven't been diagnosed but have finally booked to see a pulmonologist in a few weeks.

I am 35 years old and have always sort of struggled with hyperventilating and shortness mostly at night.

I've seen a doctor in the past who did lung function tests and advised all is well. Put me on ashtavent for a while which did not help at all and I sort of just lived with and got used to "not breathing" ( by this I mean I have to focus really hard and sort of have to manually breathe all the time.

For the past 3 years it has become more frequent and in the past month it has kept me up at night most of the time. I wake after sleeping a couple hours and am completely out of breath and then really struggle to get a comfortable breathing patter back.

To describe the feeling its as if I am breathing but none of my breaths are fulfilling or satisfying and then out of say every 20 breaths(ball park number) then only one is a satisfying breath that provides relief. It takes longer to get that one satisfying breath now than what it did 3 years ago.

Is this what you feel with shortness of breath? Can anyone relate with my description of the feeling and I am right to go see a pulmonologist or should I start elsewhere?

Thank you for reading.
