Hello everyone,
this is my first post here and it is regarding the potentially weakened immune system through the constant intake of cortison through medications such as Atmadisc.
I am suffering from COPD but am able to do sports regularly (running 2-3/week, 10-20km per run). Through sports I have been able to improve my lungs to not feel restricted through COPD in my daily life. However, I do suffer from catching regularly very mild colds. Regular meaning about once a month and mild meaning, tiredness, sweatiness and headache. Since my lifestyle is otherwise relatively healthy, I have the suspicion that the cortison in the atmadisc medication, which I take 2 times a day, may impair my immune system. In fact, a higher number of colds is common side effect of Atmadisc as described in the patient information leaflet.
Yet, my doctors seem quite reluctant to a) switch to a medication without cortison or b) reduce or eliminate the medication and track the lung function to see whether I can live without the medication. Indeed, a poorly treated Asthma condition may also be a source for a weak immune system after all...
My question to the community is then:
Does anybody else taking daily cortison suffer from regular colds? Did you ever consider changing the medication and if so, what where the consequences?
Thank you very much in advance!
