Hello friends,
How are things going at your house? Things are going well here, and we have a nice routine going that seems to be working for everyone. We are getting a lot done for work and school and trying to get our exercise every day. We have goals to get up and move about every hour or so, and goals to make sure we are consuming enough water. You see, I am a list person. Few things bring me as much joy as being able to check something off of my list. Just the thought of putting a check mark next to a task brings me happiness. Weird, right?
A funny thing is happening since we are sheltering in place: I find that I am becoming even more driven by my checklists. I am really working hard to check things off the list and show that I am *doing* all the right things. Guess what? I need to cut myself some slack. I need to find ways to be kind to myself. If the evening comes around and I am tired, it is ok to just rest a while. If I need a minute to listen to some of my favorite music and sing at the top of my lungs, then I will let myself do that.
We need to give ourselves a break. Everyone I know is doing the very best they can in a very new, difficult situation, and I bet you are, too. We are all trying our best. You are doing your best. Now is the time to be kind to yourself.
How are you being kind to yourself?
