Greetings!
I hope this Wednesday check in finds that you are doing well and are discovering ways to stay connected with those you care about. My family has experienced some “firsts” since our last check in post. One of those is that Hayden (my youngest child) had a birthday, and because of social distancing we did things a little differently. No large groups of friends or family were there to watch him blow out candles or eat birthday cake, but we did get several phone calls from loved ones sending their birthday wishes. My daughter, Haley, even came by and sang to him through the storm door and visited with us for a while by pulling up a chair on the patio and having our conversation through the glass door. Maybe soon we will be able to gather together as a family and celebrate all the birthdays and special occasions we have missed since the outbreak began.
Another first for us is that we have started learning a language together. We have chosen to learn German. We have downloaded an app on our phones and are trying very hard to learn. The great thing about the app is that it pretty quickly has you reading common sentences that one might speak on a daily basis. Things like, “Hello, how are you?” or “Where is the red duck?” You know, useful phrases. At any rate, we are trying to keep our minds active and learning during this time and this is one way to do that.
Speaking of being active, how are you doing with maintaining an exercise program right now? I cannot stress enough the importance of staying physically active. Last week, I spoke with fellow respiratory therapist and Virginia State Captain, Christina Hunt, about exercise and she even created a couple of videos showing upper and lower body exercises that you can do in your home. The upper body video was shown last week through our Facebook page, and we will introduce the lower body video during a Facebook Live event on tomorrow (Thursday, April 16th) at noon Eastern Time. We would love for you to join us during the live event, but the recording will be available for viewing later, too.
The link to the upper body exercise video is below.
We hope you use this video to help you start an exercise routine, or maybe it will give you some ideas for new exercises you can add to your current exercise program. The important thing is to stay as active as you can. Let’s stay active together!!
Let us know how you are doing – we want to hear from you!
Sending warm wishes,
Stephanie
