COPD Stages my mother

Hello COPD community,

I am quite concerned about my mother who has COPD and emphysema. Her current FEV1 predicted is 22% and is constantly having flare ups requiring hospitalisation. She is regularly out of breath and wheezes constantly whilst coughing up mucus

Weight loss appears to be getting worse with approx 15kgs lost in last 12 months. 5kgs lost in the last month alone. I have calculated her BODE score to be approx 9-10.

All this while she continues to smoke approx 10-12 cigarettes per day. Unbelievable!

I know she is medicated for anxiety and osteoporosis all COPD related. Also with dilators/steroids for her lungs.

I know life expectancy is hard to measure case but case, but I don’t think she is being honest about her outlook.

What are others experiencing? And are any doctors able to provide some guidance or advice. I would approach her lung doctor but due to privacy I doubt they would tell me anything.
