im a caregiver to a patient with COPD Emphysema, CHF, and Pulmonary hypertension. Hes been in the hospital twice in 4 weeks for an exacerbation, respiratory failure from low oxygen and high co2. We have one of the philips recalled bipaps but his o2 drops every time he uses it, he never needed it until now. I keep trying to use it, was getting 20 min before o2 sats dropped 10% , now its about 5 minutes or 3 minutes.
The discharging doctor at the hospital was supposed to send a prescription to renew the BIPap , no one seems to know what happened to it. We then got an appt with a pulmonologist that was supposed to renew it but they are dodging my calls and its been four biz days with no script and no call/email reply. Im trying to rent one privately and of course cant without a current prescription. Hes already retaining co2 and in spasms, confusion and paranoia oh and just slipped ontohis face. Ive been trying to get this straightened out for 10 days to avoid this very situation hes in- high co2 with no bipap to blow it off.
The pulmonologist can write him a prescription right? It doesnt have to go to the insurance i should be able to take it anywhere im willing to pay right?
