I am wondering if anyone has been brave enough to cancel their Part D RX plan that Medicare requires you to purchase otherwise you will have to pay a Late Enrollment Penalty FOR LIFE if you decide to sign back up later, whether in 3 mos or 3 years. I have been getting scrips thru Canada and so far haven't had any issues. It's only a little unnerving in that I can't get the scrip immediately from a drug store, but rather have to wait a month to get it in the mail from overseas. I haven't cancelled Part D yet, as I have 3 more days for open enrollment, so I m trying to determine all the pros and cons of being without insurance when it's all I've ever known (first thru my employer, then on my own thru Medicare). The drugs overall are much cheaper in Canada than in the US so I'm saving a TON of money, but I'm worried about those one-off cases where I may need an emergency drug. It's a shame that the US forces you to pay for insurance or else you are punished, when there are other means of taking care of your prescription needs. Can anybody share any personal experiences they may have had with doing this type of thing? Thanks and good breathing!
