I am a long-time business traveler (Delta Million-miler, with another half-million miles on United). I've been fortunate enough to have visited 45 different countries. My wife and I have traveled for fun, as well.
All this time I thought airplanes pressurized the air in the plane to be at ground level. Wrong! It turns out they only pressurize to around 8,000 feet.
Since my COPD has gotten worse, I find myself really feeling the rare air on the plane. I've had to use my albuterol inhaler to help me through it. Prednisone is a good solution for flight as well, I've found, but of course, that is not a viable long-term solution due to the various side-effects.
I rarely see anyone in a plane using oxygen, or even using an inhaler. It got me wondering, do people with COPD just not fly anymore? If so, I can understand why.
I'd be interested in hearing what other folks do when they have to fly a long distance?
