Hi everyone,
I'm 27 years old and after a bout of tonsilitis a few months ago I developed shortness of breath and dizziness. I had a similar episode about 6 months prior that was investigated with a chest xray which was unremarkable.
I was sent for a spiro this time around and recieved the results today stating that I have mild COPD. I am in shock as I am, as mentioned, only 27 years old. I also have a relatively minimal smoking history (3 cigarettes max per day over the last 9 years and 6 months of vaping).
The GP has assured me that my results are okay and that as long as I stop smoking (which I have), I will not see a significant worsening of my lung function. In my mind however, I am concerned that there is something else going on or that, because I have developed this so young, my lungs will be more susceptible to damage and will continue to deteriorate quickly.
I have asked the doctor for the following:
- Another spiro referral to check initial results
- Alpha 1 blood test
- Specialist referral
- CT scan (only to be done if spiro results come back abnormal again)
I have also attached a photo of the spiro results as I don't really understand them. The GP said everything was pretty normal aside from the FEV1/FVC%.
Just wanting to know if anyone has any insight into these results to help me understand a little better or any advice on anything else I should ask the specialist when I see them.
I have a lot of health anxiety and this forum has helped ease my mind over the last week or so while awaiting these test results so thank you all <3
