COPD Foundation, The Nimoy Knight Foundation partner to showcase documentary about Leonard Nimoy and COPD
2025 marks the 10th anniversary of Leonard Nimoy's passing
Miami (February 27, 2025) - The COPD Foundation, The Nimoy Knight Foundation, and Health Point Productions today announce their partnership to distribute the documentary "Remembering Leonard Nimoy: His Life, Legacy and Battle with COPD."
Nimoy died in February 2015 at the age of 83 from complications related to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). COPD comprises several conditions, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema, and can be caused by genetics and irritants like smoke or pollution.
The disease affects more than 30 million Americans and is the fourth leading cause of death worldwide, yet awareness of the disease's symptoms, methods to reduce risk, and disease management remains poor.
The film, which was originally released in 2017, discusses Nimoy's life and his journey with COPD. Produced by Nimoy's daughter Julie Nimoy and her husband, David Knight, the film focuses on raising awareness of and educating the public about COPD through Nimoy's stories and experiences.
"We are excited to partner with Julie and David to share this documentary with audiences to help educate them about COPD," said Michael W. Hess, MPH, RRT, RPFT, Senior Director of Advocacy and Regulatory Affairs at the COPD Foundation. "Leonard's story connects with millions of people in the U.S. and around the world who have COPD or know someone who does. We must continue to increase awareness of COPD to get people diagnosed earlier, so they can live longer with an improved quality of life. Sharing this movie is one way we can do that."
